I don’t have a definite answer, but you might consider the fact that incandescent lamps are nonlinear devices. They have a very low resistance when cold, which increases as the filament temperature increases. There is a large current spike when first powered on, after which the current decreases to the operating level.

This means that two lamps running in series may not divide the voltage equally. It would be an interesting problem to examine how the two lamps would split the voltage over time as filaments warmed up and cooled, depending upon the temperature coefficients of the resistance.

Whether such behavior would overstress the filaments I doubt, but do not know. It’s just one factor that most analysis would overlook but may have effects.
