Actually as per the Treaty of Gajendragad, the Marathas, the Nizam, and Mysore formed an alliance which was supposed to help each other against a third power which mostly referred to the British. But the alliance didn’t live long and the Third Anglo-Mysore war erupted in which the Marathas and the Nizam sided with the British against Mysore and the French.
Well, Mysore and the Marathas were the last two major powers in India which the British had not yet overridden in the 18th century. They were also the only powers who had caused massive defeat to the British. Mysore had defeated the British in the First and the Second Anglo-Mysore wars. The first one especially was actually a huge embarrassment to the British. The Marathas also had defeated the British in the First Anglo-Maratha war

Answer:the Anglo–Mysore Wars were a series of wars fought during the last three decades of the 18th century between the Kingdom of Mysore on the one hand, and the British East India Company (represented chiefly by the Madras Presidency), and the Nizam of Hyderabad on the other. Hyder Ali and his successor Tipu Sultan fought a war on four fronts with the British attacking from the west, south and east, while the Nizam's forces attacked from the north.[1] The fourth war resulted in the overthrow of the house of Hyder Ali and Tipu (who was killed in the fourth war, in 1799), and the dismantlement of Mysore to the benefit of the East India Company, which won and took control of much of India
