Yes,we state that photosynthesis is the basic energy source for most of the living world because they can take in simple substances and prepare their own food.Not only that,they also pass it on to other members in the food chain.

The photosynthesis is a basic energy source for the entire living world because plants are the basic energy producers who can prepare their food on their own using carbon di oxide, water and sunlight with the help of the pigment chlorophyll.

Other than this method of preparing food (i.e.) photosynthesis, there is no other method of food production for the entire universe. The energy thus produced is transferred to different trophic levels.
