CAN WE TELL IF AN ELEMENT IS A METAL OR NON METAL BY ITS VALENCY.
METALS DONATE
NON METALS GAIN.
SO THIS MEANS THAT VALENCY OF ALL METALS MUST BE POSITIVE
AND
VALENCY OF ALL NON METALS MUST BE NEGATIVE.
THEN WHY HYDROGEN, CARBON, NITROGEN,SILICON HAVE POSITIVE VALENCY.

hey your question is somewhat wrong
Nitrogen has -3 valency
Hydrogen has both - 1 and +1 as valency as you would learn in higher classes and carbon doesn't have either + or - 4 valency we just call it 4. Hydrogen both acts as alkali earth metal as well as halogens ,that's why it is called clown of periodic table. Carbon neither gain nor loses electron ,it just shares its electrons and form covalent bond

AyushBaghel: but it is not like that
AyushBaghel: there forms a covalent bond btw them
poojaoberoi: ok
poojaoberoi: thanks
poojaoberoi: and do silicon have valency
poojaoberoi: do metalloids have valenc
poojaoberoi: yes i know
poojaoberoi: u mean there is a covalent bond
poojaoberoi: bond in which electrons are shared
poojaoberoi: OVERALL THANKYOU VERY MUCH FOR UR HELP
