there are many reasons :
1. with increase in speed the mass increase and the amount of energy required to accelerate will be more and if we do the mathematics we will need infinite amount of energy. which is not possible.
2. when the velocity increase the dimension of a body increase in the direction of the motion and decrease in other direction. this will make someone very thin and long which is again not possible.
but this is all about the present science and according to einstein and maxwell but if in future these theories are proven to be wrong you might start a chase with a torch.
