  • The reagents are used such that the ions of the lower groups are not precipitated.
  • If we use ammonium sulfate during the analysis of group 3 the ions of group 6(Mg,Ca,sr,etc,) will also be precipitated as their corresponding sulfates along with hydroxides of group 3, creating ambiguity in identification of ions.
