Can we use any other variable instead of ScrollX or ScrollY for scrolling in scratch?

I made a game in it, with ScrollX, and then even though I renamed it, it was working.
oh i see....i thought you were asking me about version 1.8...(versions 1.8 is being taught in our computer classes)....
