This depends on lot of factors and also how you look at it. Let’s just be honest, we don’t buy the subscription to watch the matches and thus use 3rd party websites or streaming websites to watch them.
Also after reading other answers, there is one more angle why there is a lag between live TV and websites. Legal complications. If the match is being streamed other than the official broadcasters website, chances of getting screwed legally are high. Even two official providers having a delay ain’t an exception in this case. Example being the in the mid 2000’s where there used to be a 15–30 minute delay on DD due to a court ruling.
Another thing is that since most of the websites which stream are Ad-free or has deals with ad agencies, they spend a lot of time showing certain pointless ads which we are forced to watch, Hence the delay.
Also those who answered about satellites, well Live TV also follows the same concept, hence that exactly isn’t the reason.
