YES.
we wipe out corruption from our country.
Before going into the perspectives of how to achieve it, I would like to reiterate what corruption is.
What is corruption?
In philosophical, theological, or moral discussions, Aristotle used it for the first time as an abuse of bestowed power or position to acquire a personal benefit. Corruption may include many activities including bribery and embezzlement
Where do we stand?
Since the turn of the 21st century, Transparency International (TI) has published the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) annually ranking countries "by their perceived levels of corruption, as determined by expert assessments and opinion surveys." The CPI generally defines corruption as "the misuse of public power for private benefit
The 2010Corruption Perceptions Index shows that three quarters of the 178 countries in the index have fared miserably in terms of corruption problem.
Specifically, India has slipped three places in global rankings of less to more corrupt countries, from 84 in 2009 to 87 in 2014
Nearly half of workersin India think bribery and corruption are acceptable ways to survive an economic downturn or manage a situation
Over 12 months, one in four people paid a bribe when they came into contact with one of nine institutions and services, from health to education to tax authorities
Source: Transparency International, Global Corruption Barometer (2010), surveying 91,500 people across 86 countries
62% of Indians had first hand experience of paying bribes or influence peddling to get jobs done in public offices successfully
40% of Indians had firsthand experience of paying bribes or using a contact to get a job done in public office
As of December 2009, 150 of India's 543 parliament members were facing criminal charges(17-murder,19-attempted murder,3-multiple charges of murder)
Most corrupt states are Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir followed by MP,UP,Karnataka,Tamilnadu,Rajastan,Chathisgargh,Delhi, Gujarat,Jharkhand,Kerala,Oriss etc.
Basic reasons why corruption thrives in our country?
1. Lack of education: Vast majority of the populace are simply unaware of various rules and tricked by officials/middlemen
2."Chalta hai" attitude: Even the so called educated class don't bother to take the pain to follow the rules. They see no harm in greasing the palm of some official to expedite their work
3. Absence of a strong culture of transparency: Govt offices, the hotbed of corruption, have always been shrouded in mystery. A layman has no idea of whom to approach, what forms to fill and when moved to the point of distress he becomes willing to pay whatever amount to get his job done
4. Institutional flaws: Recruitment to the Govt Services, especially those at the State level, is ridden with corruption. A candidate has to shell out anywhere between a few lakhs to a crore to get a job in the State Public Services
5.Lack of Awareness: People generally remain ignorant on the long term ramifications of bribes on the economy. Most of them are in cash and go untaxed, thereby intensifying the problem of Black money
What measures can be taken to curb this problem?
There are Institutional, Legal and Social calls to be implemented
Some tips are the following
Give better salary in govt jobs: Many employees in government positions receive low salary like clerks, office staff etc. Hence they expect to make money by bribery. For this they try to delay the work for so long that the client is fed up and opts for bribery for progress in the work.
Increase the number of workers: In many offices of the government sector, the work load has gone up drastically but the recruitment of vacancies has declined .This gives an option for delaying the work by officials and expect monetary or other benefits for faster completion.
Law to dismiss from service if found to be involved in corruption. This seems a better option. For instance if you see cases where anti-corruption bureau rides an officers home and finds disproportionate assets, .
Conclusion
I Quote Einstein’s words to conclude my talk.
“The world is a dangerous place not because of people who do evil; but because of those who look on and do nothing”
Hence it is our call to wake up and act together. Let us pledge for a better India.
Thank you
I hope it is helped you
