There are two physical differences between Low pressure systems and High pressure systems. Secondly, is the atmospheric motion that they cause. These "motions" (caused by these circulations) are the building blocks in our atmosphere. They give us our weather.

=>> In a low pressure, the air rises. As it does, it cools down by adiabatic effect and moisture condenses, causing clouds then, precipitations of rain or snow.
In a high pressure the air sinks. That causes the opposite adiabatic effect and, as the air warms up, it evaporates the clouds and you are left with a clear sky and little or no wind.
During daytime the sun heats the earth. At night that heat radiates back into space, the balance of which is called, the sun’s net radiation. It is positive during the summer and negative (more loss than gain) during the winter. Hence, a winter high pressure means a cold weather, as opposed to the warm summer.
