Sieving is a process in which a device called sieve is used to separate wanted substances from unwanted substances. A sieve consists of a wire mesh or net frame through with unwanted smaller particles pass out while required wanted particles don't move out of the sieve and are left in the container only. The size of the holes in the sieve mesh depends on what the sieve is used for.

hope I helped :)
