An action verb with a direct object is transitive while an action verb with no direct object is intransitive. Some verbs, such as arrive, go, lie, sneeze, sit, and die, are always intransitive; it is impossible for a direct object to follow.

1.The boy flew a paper aeroplane.

2.The bell rings.

In the first sentence in the verb flew which requires an object to complete its meaning is called transitive verb

Transitive verbs example

she ate an apple

the boy flies his kite

intransitive verbs example

The bird flew

The boat sank

In the second sentence the word rings which does not require any object that make complete sense itself is called and intransitive verb
