How water is transported in plants?
Plants have two different types of 'transport' tissue. Xylem transports water and solutes from the roots to the leaves, phloem transports food from the leaves to the rest of the plant. Transpiration is the process by which water evaporates from the leaves, which results in morewater being drawn up from the roots.
How do Minerals move into plants?
The concentration of minerals inthe soil is very low. They dissolvein water and move around the soil in solution. Root hair cellsare adapted to absorb the water out of soil by osmosis – they have a large surface area, thin walls and are close to the xylem cells used for transporting water up the plant.
