Missing links are the fossils that have the characters of two different groups of organisms e.g. Archaeopteryx shows some features of reptiles and some features of birds. It was discovered by Wagner in 1861 in the rocks of Jurassic period from Germany. Some of the reptile like features are as follows- Its body axis is like reptile. A long tail is present. The bones are not pneumatic. Sternum is weak. Free caudal vertebrae like reptiles are present. The jaws have reptile like teeth. The bird like features are as follows- The body is covered over by feathers. The jaws are modified into beak. The forelimbs are modified into wings. Like birds there is intimate fusion of skull bones.
