Dear Student,

Spoilage of food is called rancidity.

● Rancidity -

  • Rancidity is the complete or incomplete oxidation or hydrolysis of fats and oils when exposed to air, light, or moisture or by bacterial action, resulting in unpleasant taste and odor.

◆ Examples of food spoilage -

  1. When oil is kept in container for long time, it smells.
  2. Packed food gets spoiled after expiry date.

● Methods to prevent rancidity -

  • Storing the food at lower temperatures
  • Sealproof packing of food items
  • Addition of antioxidants to food materials
  • Avoid contact from direct sunlight

Hope this helps...
