Section A (Reading)

Read the following passage carefully and answer the
questions that follow.

DRAGONFLIES
Flying insects are usually troublesome. Mosquito bites leave us with
itchy skin and houseflies are unpleasant. But there is something magical about dragonflies. Dragonflies were some of the
first winged insects that were there many years ago. Now, there are
more than 5,000 types of dragonflies. The earlier dragonflies used to
have very large wingspans. But today they have wingspans
that are much smaller in size.
Dragonflies are expert fliers. They can fly straight, up and down, and
hover like a helicopter. Dragonflies only eat insects that they can
catch while flying. This means that dragonflies cannot stay alive
without flying. Nearly all of the dragonfly’s head is the eye. They have
fantastic eyesight that helps them to see almost all sides except what
is right behind them.

A single dragonfly can eat thirty to hundreds of mosquitoes per day.
This helps control the mosquito population. Some grown-up
dragonflies live for only a few weeks while others live up to a year.
