People that do not understand Newton’s Third Law think that action and reaction forces act on the same object. They do not.
The “action” force is the Gravity’s pull of Earth on the falling object.
The reaction is the Gravity’s pull of the falling object on the center of Earth.
Since both forces have the same modulus, but the object and the Earth have very different masses, the object suffers a visible displacement, whereas the Earth’s displacement is not measurable by any known instrument. (although it can be calculated mathematicaly, resulting a number full of zeroes…)
