Here's the answer you are looking for
The number of valence electrons in nitrogen is 5. valence electrons in oxygen is 6.
2 of the oxygens form double bond with nitrogen and the third one forms a single bond with nitrogen.
As a result of which the octet of the 3rd oxygen it's not completed. So to complete the octet of the oxygen extra electron is added for which it gets a negative sign.
