Explanation:

let x and y be the two numbers

x-y=26 [eq 1] x=26-y

x-3y=4 [eq 2]

Now substitute value of x in eq 2

26-y-3y=4

26-4y=4

-4y= 4-26

-4y= -22

therefore y= -22/ -4

y=22/4

Now

x-22/4=26

=4x-22/4=26

=4x-22=104(26×4)

=4x=126(104+22)

therefore

x=126/4
