answer is;

Aside from 'needing plants and animals to eat' (another's answer.) My take: We don't 'need' animals to eat.

It is called ecology and our interrelation with other lives/organisms. We need plants and other species to keep the healthy balance of this planet. In truth, humans could stop reproducing and become extinct and it would not impact this planet (ok things would improve. We'd stop raping the land and resources and releasing toxins into the air and butchering and killing off other species). Other plants and species contribute to this planet existing. Look up keystone species. These are species who have a huge impact on the environment and play a critical role in maintaining the ecological structure of the community of beings on the planet. Humans are not one of them. Trees are so vital and without them we humans and other life forms would die.

Yes, we'd be in a world of hurt if plants and other species stopped reproducing. In fact, life would grind to a halt.

thanks
