SOUTH AFRICA IS LOCATED IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE WHERE AUTUMN FALLS IN THE MONTH OF MAY. SINCE THE CEREMONY TOOK PLACE ON 10TH MAY, SO IT IS CALLED AUTUMN DAY IN SOUTH AFRICA.
Explanation:
In the small garden of the Smiths’ family home lived a flourishing, bright, yellow sunflower named Sola. She sprouted in the fresh soil of the garden bed as a tiny baby seed. Every day, since Sola was planted, she received sufficient sprinkles of cool water from her gods (the Smiths) allowing her to grow into a beautiful young adult. She enjoyed her new days of adult hood, swaying in the last cool spring breeze. She looked up at the sun and showed off her flaunting, radiant, yellow petals. She loved her life and her beauty. Sola admired her surroundings, her pulchritudinous world of luscious green grass and an array of soft pink and white flowers inhabiting the nearby soil.
In no time, the unbearable heatwave hit Adelaide as soon as summer arrived. It was the worst heat wave ever. Sola drowned in the excruciating heat of the afternoon sun. She looked down at her once moist green leaves to see them a burnt orange and shrivelled into a hard skin. She flinched in agony. The sunny petals around her face were no longer filled with moisture, dying under the dry fire like atmosphere. Her gods had also forgotten about her, leaving her in the blistering heat to perish. They never watered her again.
Sola watched as the water from the tap opposite her dripped in waste onto the small patch of green lawn underneath. The rest of the lawn was a burning yellow, blinding her eyes. How she wished she could be right under that tap to feel the precious diamonds of the cool water trickle down her entire body, from the tip of her top petal down to her dry roots in the dehydrated soil. Why wouldn’t anyone save her?
Suddenly, one of her gods emerged out of the blue door under the refuge of the shelter. Sola inspected, with droopy blurred vision, the creature put a bright red plastic bucket under the dripping tap. Plop, plop, plop, plop. The constant rhythm of the dripping water filled Sola’s ears with muffled music. Sola was absolutely waterless. Her head dropped from the neck of her now yellow stem in debilitation. She curled her body onto the soil waiting for death to take her away from this hell. Plop, plop, plop, plop. This was the last thing Sola heard.
Sola dreamed of her peaceful life in the spring breeze. She felt the cool precious water of the gods raining from above. Her body absorbed it like a sponge, saturating it. She felt the coolness pulse through her stem and straight into her dried shrivelled roots. The fresh aroma of wet soil intoxicated her every breath. Sola opened her eyes. No more heat. No more fire. She was alive! More water gushed on to her. She looked up to see a waterfall of sparkling liquid diamonds falling from the vibrant red bucket. Her gods had finally saved her. They hadn’t forgotten about her at all. Sola cherished the precious water in exhilaration.
