S1,Surface area of the cube=6a² sq.units
=6×10×10 cm²=600 cm²
On splitting the cube into 4 equal parts, then side of each cube=10/4 cm=2.5 cm
S2,Surface area of each of the 4 equal cubes=6×2.5×2.5 cm²=37.5 cm²
S1/S2=600/37.5=16⇒S1=16S2⇒S2=1/16 S1
Hence, the surface area has increased by 1/16 times from the original.
