Matchstick does not catch fire on its own at room temperature because its temperature is less than the ignition temperature. On stricking it with the walls of the box sufficient amount of heat is liberated.

a substance doesnot catch fire until its temperature is raised to its ignition temperature...a match stick , a piece of wood etc dont catch fire on der own becoz their own ignition temperature of these substances are higher than room temp..(25degree c)
