A young woman suffered unfair treatment at the whims of her superior. This man had extreme power over her, her life's choices, and her peers. He made it his goal in life to humiliate her in front of the assembly she had to attend. He was instrumental in turning others against her.
This went on for nearly five years with no respite. One especially rough time, she was ostrasized from the gathering for an indeterminate amount of time. She was devastated, and had nobody to turn to.
Then she realized everyone has a boss, and so did this man. She had never talked to him for anything, and was told to never go over her tormentors head. The chain of command was absolute, and could never be broken!
She figured her life was hell anyway, and she had nothing to lose. The day she called him, she was scared to death. She had prayed for understanding and grace to say the right thing. The man answered the phone himself (he never answered his phone himself before. He always had an assistant). What she had suffered, came out in a rush!! Five years of abuse came to light in matter of 5 minutes.
After telling her story, the man was silent for a moment. He finally said “I believe you. You are never to go back there. I have another assembly you can go to, and I'll make arrangements myself for you to go there. They are good people, and will welcome you with open arms.”
It was as he said. The woman found peace, and acceptance at last. Her tormentor tried to find ways to torment her in her new place, but her new friends protected her.
This man ended up losing everything. His position, family, respect, and everything he had wanted for her to suffer.
The woman flourished in her new environment. Years later, she happened to see this superior quite by accident at a world conference. She thanked him profusely, and he asked how she was doing. She looked her rescuer in the eyes and said she was at peace….and she was.
