yes we Can use soaps and synthetic detergents to check the hardness of water as
soap will not form micelle in hard water because soap will react with Mg2+ &Ca2+ ions to form micelle
but synthetic detergents form micelle very easily with ions of hard water to form scum &micelle in hard water
