Canada balsam, a mounting agent used to make permanent slides is obtained from the species of Abies balsamea.

The resin of the balsam fir tree is used to make this agent after dissolving in essential oils.

The resultant product is yellowish in colour after the essential oils are evaporated, i.e. it dries up and becomes amorphous in nature.
