Cannizzaro reaction: -

Aldehydes which do not have any alpha hydrogen atom(H-CHO &C6H6-CHO) undergo self oxidation and reduction when treated with con. Alkali to form the corresponding acid and alcohol.

Hope you got it.!

* The Cannizzaro reaction is initiated by the nucleophilic attack of a hydroxide ion on the carbonyl carbon of an aldehyde molecule by giving a hydrate anion, which can be further deprotonated to give a dianion in a strongly alkaline medium.

Hope you understand this method.
