Hi

Here is ur answer

CaO + HCl  →  CaCl₂ + H₂O   is the given equation

First we 've to look at LHS,

Ca   ------  1

0  ----- 1

H ------- 1 ( before)

Cl ------- 1

Since we 've to see whether both sides ahve correct numbering,

RHS,

Ca --------- 1

Cl -------- 2

H --------- 2

0 -------- 1

Here, since we have 2 for Cl and H we have to balance in LHS also,

If the number is written as superscript for any compound then it will be applicable for both as 2 HCl....Here both H and Cl has 2

But when it is as subscript, as H₂O , here 2 is only for H

After balancing,

CaO + 2HCl → CaCl₂ + H₂O

Hope it helps U
