What happens to the energy stored in a capacitor if after disconnecting the battery, the plates of the charged capacitor are moved further? ... when the plates are moved there is no effect on the stored energy between them and energy of the capacitor remains constant.

Capacitor hold charge even when disconnected from the supply, because -

• There are two conductive plates inside a capacitor and these two conductive terminals are seperated from each other with the help of some layers of insulator.

• Now,when we connect the terminals of the capacitor with power source,the electricity flows towards the internal plates and then one plate gains negative charge, other plate gains positive charge.

• This charge is stored even we disconnect the power source but this stored charge is rapidly released when we connect that charged capacitor with some sort of closed circuit.
