If the capillary tube is vertically dipped in a liquid at that time the liquid surface is hemispherical then the angle of contact theta is 90 degrees.

  • The height h by which a liquid will rise upward in a capillary tube of internal radius r is specified by

         h= 2Scosθ/rρg

  • Here S is the surface tension, ρ is the liquid density and θ is the angle of contact.

  • If the level of liquid in and out of the tube are equal. Then We have cosθ=0, as other variables can't be zero.

                          cosθ=0

  • so the contact θ would be 90 degrees.
