Concept

We will consider that the total journey around the world is represented by 1. And then subtracting the fraction of journey travelled by the plane from the journey around the world will give the value of the fraction of journey travelled by the boat.

Given

The journey travelled by plane is 1/4.

The total journey around the globe is 1.

Find

We are asked to calculate the fraction of the journey travelled by the boat.

Solution

Journey around the world = Journey travelled by the boat + Journey travelled by the plane

Journey travelled by the boat = Journey around the world - Journey travelled by the plane

Journey travelled by the boat = 1 - (1/4)

Journey travelled by the boat = 3/4

Hence the fraction of the journey travelled by the boat is 3/4.
