Car A and B are moving towards each other with identical speed of 50 m/s. When the distance between 2 is 300m, both apply brakes such that A retards at 2 m/s2. Find the retardation of B if they just avoid collision.

Answer:

14.67 m/s²

Explanation:

You can solve these type of problems with the help of Einstein's general theory of relativity. Sounds odd?

Well, the relative motion that we read in our 11th book is also an approach of the general theory of relativity.

Now, both cars are moving towards each other with each's speed 50 m/s. So, their relative velocity is 100m/s.

Since, they want to just avoid collision, when they spotted each other at 300 meters, so,

v² = u² + 2as

0² = (100)² + 2 × a × 300

a = - 16.67 m/s²

Since, one car has already been retarding at 2m/s², so other car should have retardation of (16.67 - 2) = 14.67 m/s²
