ANSWER:

Given:

  • Distance covered by Car X = 144miles
  • Amount of gas used by Car X = 9gallons
  • Distance covered by Car Y = 144miles
  • Amount of gas used by Car Y = 4gallons

To Find:

  • Difference between miles per gallon of the two cars

Solution:

We are given that,

⇒ Distance covered by Car X = 144miles

⇒ Amount of gas used by Car X = 9gallons

So,

⇒ Miles per gallons of Car X = 144/9 = 16mpg --------(1)

And,

We are also given that,

⇒ Distance covered by Car Y = 144miles

⇒ Amount of gas used by Car Y = 4gallons

So,

⇒ Miles per gallons of Car Y = 144/4 = 36mpg --------(2)

Now,

We need to find that,

⇒ Difference of mpg of both cars

From (1) & (2),

⇒ Difference of mpg of both cars = 36mpg - 16mpg

⇒ Difference of mpg of both cars = 20mpg

The difference between miles per gallons(mpg) of the two cars is 20.
