Chubut (Province of Chubut, in Welsh : Talaith Chubut ) is an Argentine province located in the south of the country, in the Patagonian Region (Argentina) or Patagonia , between parallels 42 and 46 south latitude, bounded on the north by the province of Rio Black , to the east with the Argentine Sea , to the south with Santa Cruz and to the west with the Republic of Chile . It has 15 departments, its capital is Rawson , and the most populous city is Comodoro Rivadavia. It has 428,046 inhabitants. With its 224,686 km², it is the third largest province in the country, surpassed only by the provinces of Buenos Aires and Santa Cruz .
