Molisch’s Test:

  • Alcoholic alpha naphthol forms furfural and furfural derivatives, such as hydroxymethylfurfural, by the concentrated sulphuric acid acting on the sugar.

Test for Carbohydrates:

Benedict's test – Given sample food + Benedict's reagent → Red precipitate confirms the presence of carbohydrates
