Production of carbon dioxide gas during respiration can be studied experimentally. During germination, the seeds give out carbon dioxide as a byproduct of respiration. This carbon dioxide is then absorbed by the KOH solution. This creates vacuum in the conical flask. The air present in the delivery tube enters the conical flask. This pulls the water further up in the delivery tube. This results in the increase in the water level in the delivery tube.
