Hey Dear,

Complete question added in image.

◆ Law of multiple proportions -

  • It states that when two elements combine with each other to form more than one compound, the weights of one element that combine with a fixed weight of the other are in a ratio of small whole numbers.

● Explanation -

Let's take 100 g of both compounds.

In first compound -

Carbon = 100 × 42.9/100 = 42.9 g

Oxygen = 100 - 42.9 = 57.1 g

Carbon/oxygen = 42.9/57.1 = 0.7513

In first compound -

Carbon = 100 × 27.3/100 = 27.3 g

Oxygen = 100 - 27.3 = 72.7 g

Carbon/oxygen = 27.3/72.7 = 0.3755

Ratio of weight of oxygen that combines with same mass of carbon will be 0.7513 / 0.3755 = 2 : 1.

Here, 2 : 1 is a whole number ratio which proves law of multiple proportions.

Best luck...

Answer:

Carbon = 100 × 27.3/100 = 27.3 g

Oxygen = 100 - 27.3 = 72.7 g

Carbon/oxygen = 27.3/72.7 = 0.3755
