Carbon cannot reduce the oxide of sodium ,mg ,ca etc. to respective metals . Justify the statement by giving correct reason. (b) State the method used for obtaining their metals from salts.
(c)For obtaining Na by this method:
Name the salt of Na used and the electrode at which Na metal is deposited .
Identify the gas produced during this process.
Show the chemical reactions taking place at both the electrodes
suggest two other metals which can be obtained from their compounds using same method

a). carbon cannot reduce as it is less reactive than sodium mg ca etc . therefore it will not be able to separate them from respective metals.
its affinity will be less than these metals.
b) electrolytic reduction
c) salt - Nacl
electrode - cathode
gas - chlorine

na+ + e- =na
2cl- = cl² + 2e-
other metals- mg aluminium

Carbon cannot reduce the oxide of sodium nd magnesium... Bcuz these metals have high affinity for oxygen rather than Carbon.... Nd second reason is that ,  themselves are strong reducing agent... Nd therefore Carbon Carbon reducing therefore oxide.
