Answer:

The law of multiple proportions

This law states that when two elements combine with each other to form more than one compound, the weights of one the element that combine with a fixed weight of the other element are in a ratio of small whole numbers.

We can calculate the ratio of the C:H in each of the compounds formed:

C = 25% , H = 75%  Ratio is 1:3

C = 14.3% , then H  = 85.7 Ratio is 1: 5.99 = 1:6

C = 7.7% , H = 92.3%  1:11.98701  = 1:12

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Proving the Law of Multiple proportions:

We will take the ratios of the hydrogen(3,6 and 12) and divide by the smallest number of the ratios, which is 3.

3 : 6 : 12  = 3/3: 6/3 : 12: 3

               = 1 : 2 : 4

This proves the law of multiple proportions as we get the ratio of whole numbers for hydrogen from the its ratio of different compounds formed with carbon.
