Lime stone ore consists of the chemical compound called Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3).

When it is heated at a temperate known as 'decomposition temperature' (of about 825°C), process of molecular breakdown occurs and it decomposes into quick lime (i.e.) Calcium oxide (CaO) and releases Carbon dioxide gas (CO2). This process is sometimes referred as Calcination or Thermolysis.

CaCo3 ----(heat)----> CaO + CO2
