C a r b o n neither gives or takes electrons because it is not possible because of the following reasons first. If it loses for electrons it needs lots of energy if it gains 4 electrons then it is not possible for 6 protons to hold 10 electrons so c a r b o n neither g a i n s or losers electrons it only shares the electron therefore the carbon makes covalent bonds.
