Carbon donot form ionic compounds bu attaining noble gas configuration
Answers
Ionic componds are formed by the transfer of electrons b/w atoms to attain stability.
But has a unique property i.e. teteravalency ( valency is 4)
••IF IT WERE TO GAIN ELECTRONS••
If carbon would gain electrons then it will be difficult for the nucles with 6 protons to hold 10 electrons i.e 4 extra electrons.
Hence, it cannot gain electrons.
••IF IT WERE TO LOOSE ELECTRONS••
If C would loose it's 4 electrons then after the 3rd electrons a lot much of energy will be needed to take the 4th electron, also it will be difficult to for C to leave an atom with 2 electrons and "6" protons.
The structure will be highly unstabe.
Hence, C neither can loose nor can gain electrons. Therefore it chooses to share electrons.
