Carbon has a tendency to form long chain compound but silicon doesn't have. Why?

Carbon has catenation tendancy due to which it can form long chains . Carbon is the only element that can form so many different compounds because each carbon atom can form four chemical bonds to other atoms, and because the carbon atom small size to fit in it forms long chain compounds...but silicon dosent have these properties so it can form long chains
