The balanced chemical equation is -

C + H2SO4 --> CO2 + H2O + SO2

  • In the mentioned balanced chemical equation, C is carbon and H2SO4 is sulphuric acid. CO2 is carbon dioxide, H2O is water and SO2 is sulphur dioxide.
  • There is one carbon atom, two hydrogen atoms, one sulphur atom and four oxygen atoms on the reactant side. The same number of atoms are present on the product side as well. Hence, it is a balanced reaction.
  • A balanced chemical reaction is a reaction where the number of atoms is the same on both the reactant and product sides.
  • Alternatively, a balanced chemical reaction obeys the law of conservation of mass.
  • The law of conservation of mass states that mass can neither be created nor destroyed.
