The coke or any agent makes the metal oxides into metallic form.

The oxides are an easy form to obtain carbonate and sulphide.

In the period of metallurgy, the metal sulphides and carbonates will be converted to oxides to make the process simple.

Calcium carbonate and Nitrogen sulphide are few examples of the metal extraction.

The conversion of metal carbonates and sulphides to metals is very difficult and economically, it is worst. But metal oxides to metal conversion is easy. So they are converted to oxides.
