carbonates.
(i) Boiling: During boiling, the soluble
Mg(HCO3), is converted into insoluble Mg(OH)2
and Ca(HCO3), is changed to insoluble CaCO3.
It is because of high solubility product of
Mg(OH), as compared to that of MgCO3, that
Mg(OH), is precipitated. These precipitates can
be removed by filtration. Filtrate thus obtained
will be soft water.how is it possible for the precipitation of mg(oh) 2 as it's solubility product is higher than that of mg(hco3)

Answer:

I think that the removal of Mg++ions from the temporary hard water is by precipitating them in the form of MgCO3(s) and not in the form of Mg(OH)2(s)as in the following equation:

Mg(HCO3)2(aq)⟶Δ MgCO3(s)+H2O(l)+CO2(g)

hope it is really right
