carefully read the passage and make a note based on the given information.

the clouded leopard is a wild cat found in the Himalayas foothills, mainland southeast Asia and China. in India , they are found in Assam, northern west Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh,Manipur , Meghalaya,Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, in Himalayas, they were traced at altitudes of 8,200 feet - 12,200 feet between April 2008 and may 2010 in the khangchendzonga biosphere reserve, Sikkim . its total population size is estimated to be fewer than 10,000 mature individuals, with no single population numbering more than 1,000 adults.

the clouded leopard was first described by British zoologist, Edward Griffith in 1821. the fur of clouded leopards is of a dark grey or tawny base , with a black and dark blotched pattern . these blotches yield a clouded pattern that suggest the English name of the cat.

their legs are short and stout, with broad paws. their hind limps are longer than their front limps to allow for increased jumping and leaping capability. they are the most talented climbers among the cats. they climb down vertical tree trunks head first, and hang on to branches with their hind paws and tails bent around branches. when jumping down, they keep hanging on to branches this way until the very last movement. when balancing on then branches, they use their long tails to steer towards a particular direction .they can easily jump up to 3.8 feet heigh!

they may use trees as daytime rest sites ,but also spend a lot of time on the ground. the time of day when they are active depends on their prey and the level of human disturbance. they live a solitary lifestyle, resting in trees during the day and hunting at night .when hunting clouded Leopards either come down from their perches in the trees and stalk their prey or lie and wait for the prey to come to them .after a successful kill and a feast ,usually retreat to the trees to digest and rest.

they are often referred to as a" modern day sabertooth" because they have the largest Canines in proportion to their body size matching the tiger in canine length. they weigh between 11.5 kg and 23 kg with females being slightly smaller than males .like other big cats ,that do not seem to purr ,but they otherwise have a wide range of vocalisation, including mewing, hissing , growling ,moaning and snorting.
