Answer: 1.Ratio of Carl is to Dan = 4:1

Dan is to Finn = 4:1

4:1 = 4 words of Carl is to 1 word of Dan and Finn.

If Dan typed 48 words

Then, Carl typed 1/4 of 48 = 12

          Finn typed 1/4 of 48 = 12

          12 + 12 = 24

So, when Dan typed 48 words, Carl and Finn together type 24:48 which can be simplified to 1:4. So Carl and Finn typed 24 words when Dan typed 48 words.
