let we think the weight of one checked bag=x

weight of two checked bags=x+x=2x

total weight of Carl's baggage=35kg

backpack weight=4kg

2x+4kg=35kg

2x=35kg-4kg

x=31kg/2

x=15.5kg

weight of one checked bag=15.5kg
