Given : Lewis set a world record for the 100.0-m run with a time of 9.86

s.  after reaching the finish  line. Mr. Lewis walked directly back to his starting point in 90.9 s,

To Find : magnitude of his average  velocity for the 200.0 m

Solution:

Average Velocity is zero as he reached back at same point hence displacement   = 0

So  velocity = 0

Velocity while race = 100/9.86  =  10.14

Velocity while return = -100/90.9  =  -1.1  m/s

Average Speed  = Total Distance / Total Time

= 200/(9.86 + 90.9)

= 200/(100.76)

= 1.985  m/s

Average Velocity = 0 m/s

Average Speed = 1.985  m/s
